Lefkada is one of the 7 Ionian Islands in the Ionian Sea and is the only island accessible by car, as it is connected via a bridge to the region of Aitoloakarnania.
The island of Lefkada has a rich and diverse landscape, with forest-covered mountains, dramatic coastlines, sheltered bays and beaches and great swathes of olive groves. As well as the larger resorts of Lefkas, Nidri and Vasilliki, there are countless tiny villages in the mountains, and churches, monasteries and ancient ruins.
Lefkas Town has many important points of interest. Among them are the ruins of ancient Lefkada and the fortification walls. You should visit the very well-preserved Venetian castle-fortress of Agia Mavra, as well as the park called Bosketo.
The famous town of Nidri (or Nydri) on the east coast is one of the most popular areas of Lefkada. Full of cafes, bars, restaurants, souvenir shops, it has a lively and vibrant atmosphere. Opposite the town across the sea lie the glittering Prince’s Islands, including Skorpios, the small private island of Aristotle Onassis. From Nidri you can take a boat to explore the surrounding islands of Meganisi, Kalamos and Kastos, with their beautiful crystal waters. You will be enchanted!
In Lefkada you will find some of the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean, which are awarded Blue Flag every year and win international distinctions – including Kathisma beach, Egremni and Porto Katsiki. You can also enjoy the sun, the sea and water sport activities on other beautiful beaches such as Agios Nikitas, Nydri, Pefkoulia, Skala Yalou, Mylos, Agiofyli.
Lefkada offers many activities and sports such as windsurfing, kitesurfing, paragliding, scuba diving, ultra-light airplane flights, horseback riding and sailing around the small islands of the area. Let us know if you need any help planning these activities on your holiday!
